My friend at the intrepid blog Irredenta has shared this LRB essay.  It really is getting at some of the same points I was making in a different realm.  Algorithms and the like seem smart.  But if the model doesn’t really grasp the key factors at work …then the model will break down.  Often at the very worst moment.
